Our formal program for this meeting was an outstanding slide show and commentary by Kimberly Bowers of the Mojave Desert Land Trust.  Kimberly concentrated on the change from private to public ownership of the many still remaining, wholly private properties contained within the various park areas. Through the Trust, and using funds raised by the Trust, they buy these plots of land from the owners, restore them to their natural state and then transfer them to the appropriate park management entity.  Most of the plots are remnants of the homesteading that was done in the 20s and 30s.  The new focus of the Trust is securing land to create wilderness linkages.  These linkages will provide safe passage between wildlife protected areas.

The meeting was concluded with the reciting of the Rotary 4-Way Test by the members.  The meeting adjourned promptly at 1:20 p.m.

Editor's Note:  This past Sunday many Club members and their spouses attended a lovely Celebration of Life for Karen Kolb.  While there was sadness on her passing, there was an overwhelming expression of the joy and happiness she brought to the lives of the many people she touched.  She was a competitior, a partner and a friend.  A small piece of her will remain in the hearts of all.
