Our speaker this day was our very own David Hammer.  David is our newest member and comes to our club with decades of service above self as a Rotarian.  David is an attorney specializing in taxes and financing.  He is a graduate of the oldest law school west of the Mississippi, UC Hastings College of Law.

David began his presentation with a power point slide show titled “Our Rotary Foundation”.  The mission of The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International is to enable Rotarians to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through the improvement of health, the support of education, and the alleviation of poverty. As Rotarians, through our Rotary Foundation, we have spent more than $4 billion on life-changing, sustainable projects over the past 102 years of the Foundation’s existence.  David did an excellent job of explaining the 3 Funds that the Foundation is comprised of, The Polio Plus Fund, The Annual Fund and the Endowment Fund, and how they work.  He then shared with us the differences between the District Grants (no limits on funds to be spent) and Global Grants (Minimum grant to be $30,000.00) and how they work.  He ended his presentation on the Foundation talking about Rotary’s Vocational Training Teams and the Rotary Peace centers with over 1,100 alumni in over 100 countries.

David then proceeded to share with all of us a slide presentation from some of his own adventures in Rotary where in 2013 he traveled to Togo, Africa to participate in the Polio Plus inoculation of children under the age of 4, 2014-2016 trips to Las Flores, Mexico to help build a school and train students in the culinary arts, and a 2015 trip to Honduras where he helped to build sanitation projects.  All in all David gave a very educational and entertaining presentation that inspired us all.  Thank you for your many years of Service above Self David and for choosing to become a member of our club!
