THIS HAPPENED ON October 12, 2018 AT THE LQ ROTARY!

Merv, Greg, Dick and Jimbo are greeted by Dr. Bruce and Kevin
President Robert welcomed everyone and had Corry Hunter lead us in the pledge.  One of our two GREAT INVOCATORS Denn gave another GREAT invocation urging “Civility over Hostility”.

We had another good turn out today with two visiting Rotarians Bennie Cash from Austin Texas and Kevin Mata the current president from the Indian Wells Club.

Sandy Lauer’s guest Karen Collins was also in attendance (for her 5th visit… isn’t it about time we induct her as a member?).

President Robert announced that the next club board meeting will be on November 14, 2018 at 5:30 at the offices of Osborne/Rincon (Corry’s office).

President Robert had both Dave Turner and Allan Levin update the club on the Brew in LQ and Hops for Props events scheduled on the same day (again) November 17.  Props will from 12-5 PM followed by the Brew in LQ from 5-9 PM.  These are both fun a lucrative fund raisers for our Club and Foundation so please sign up to help pour beer at one or both events!

And finally, our newly designated unsung hero Dave Turner stepped up and agreed to be the chairman for this year’s major fundraiser this coming spring.  Let’s everybody do their part this year and help make this the most successful event ever for our club!

Dave Turner further announced that the Rotary Club Foundation Board received a check in the amount of $1,000.00 for our club member’s expert bar tending skills at a recent event held in Coachella at the Corona Yacht Club!

Taking care of a little bit of Club/Foundation business Bruce Cathcart was voted to continue as the Foundation Board Member/Secretary for the next 3 years.  In addition it was announced that Dr. Bruce would be leapfrogging Sandy Stewart and become our President-elect this year and our club president for the Rotary year 2019-2020.  Congratulations Dr. Bruce on your rapid ascension to the top (and to Sandy for so cleverly encouraging him to do so!)

With well over $145 in the raffle this day Nick drew the white marble won a whopping five dollars.

Our beloved fine master Allan took to the podium and began by praising our unsung hero Dave Turner for all that he does for our club and then fined him $3 for his late arrival!  Kevin kicked in $20 for some no make-ups and other undisclosed misdeeds, President Robert paid for a missed board meeting, Nick threw in $36 (approximately $.50/year) for his birthday and Denn, who last week sang the praises of his wonderful, beautiful, intelligent wife and then offered up $2 in celebration of her birthday and all of her greatness apparently had a week to think it over and decided that an additional $20 was in order!  Corry threw in $7 to announce that his wonderful, beautiful, intelligent wife had just signed a teaching contract with Desert Sands Unified School District (Congratulations Kristyn!) and Bruce C. threw in $10 for his daughter’s 5th wedding Anniversary and another $10 for the recent successful fundraiser!

Our speaker this day was our current State Senator Jeff Stone.  Jeff is currently running for re-election and knowing that Rotary is NOT a political organization he did not treat our meeting as just another stop along the campaign trail.  After sharing with us a bit of his background and how he went from pharmacist to local activist and ultimately a politician, he did an excellent job in giving us all an update on the current state of the state.  He noted that as residents of California we had the distinguished honor of being the highest taxed citizens in the United States and further, that Los Angeles was home to over 175,000 homeless people.  Jeff patiently answered our member’s questions about the numerous initiatives on our ballot this November.  Thank you Senator for taking time away from your busy schedule to visit our club and thank you for your service above self!

President Robert called the meeting to a close at 1:30 PM with the Four Way Test.
