Rotary Club of La Quinta

Service above self since 1985

Up, up and away....

Another Friday means another La Quinta Rotary meeting at the Cliff House. A small but vocal group was led in the pledge of allegiance by Allan Levin, followed by some words of invocation from President David Archer. There were no visiting Rotarians, nor guests of our Rotarians.

Announcements included that the Club will be dark on Friday, Sept 2nd and that the Club is looking at specific projects including adopting a park and tree planting. For future planning, calendar the next Board meeting on Wednesday, September 14th. For additional information check the Club's web site at

David Turner was given a few moments to speak about his business. Due to chatter in the room this reporter was unable to hear!

Lucky Dave Turner, after the noise died down, had his ticket called for a winning bid at the raffle.

Allan then took over the podium and fined many members, including Robert W., Steve R., Bill C., Walter K., Ray L., Rey N., Nick K., Joe L. David A., Andy B., and Sandy S. and a few others for everything from trips, to missing meetings to happy dollars. From this reporter's calculation, very few members escaped the fine master's reach.

The speakers were Tom Nolan, Executive Director of the Palm Springs International Airport and Mark Kiehl, who is part of the management team. Palm Springs airport sits on over 940 acres and it's paved runways have enough asphalt to cover 88 miles of two lane highways. The new concourse building has over 250,000 square feet, including 65 operating leases and tenants. Frontier Airlines will soon start service. Tom also stated that the USO will soon be expanded from 1,000 to 4,500 sq ft. Makes a person want to fly away to some cool place.....
