At our May 18 2018 meeting President Robert Wilkinson welcomed Shawn Webb, the assistant Principal for the Career Tech Program at La Quinta CA High School and the five students that he brought with him, one from each specialized program offered at LQHS.

Before introducing us to the 5 students that he brought with him from the various special programs available to the students at La Quinta High School, Shawn gave a very heartfelt thanks to our club for all of the support that our Rotary club has given over the years to the students of La Quinta High School.  Most recently he noted the very generous scholarships that we provided this year and the mock interviews that we participated in just this past month.

Shawn then introduced each of the five students (all of which are graduating seniors this June) from left to right; Juan Ruiz who represented the LQHS sports program and who plays free safety on the Varsity Football team as well as runs track (winning the district championship 4 man 440 relay this year),  Jaden Weaver from the Culinary Arts program who currently is employed in the restaurant industry here in the valley and someday plans on becoming an executive chef that stays involved in the cooking process,  Karina Maciel who is an International Baccalaureate full diploma candidate who will begin her college career as a sophomore due to the rigorous and challenging IB curriculum, Anthony Tellez from the Public Service Academy who, after serving his country in the US Air Force, plans to return to the Coachella Valley and become a law enforcement officer, and finally Molly Piza who is a Lt. Coronel after 4 years of participating in the LQHS R.O.T.C. program.  She has enlisted in the Army and looking to possibly make this her career.

Each of the students shared with us their experiences at LQHS and what their participation in each of the different programs meant to them as well as their plans and goals for the future.  Everyone in attendance this day was very impressed by these young adults and very proud of their accomplishments!  Each of them will no doubt make a good Rotarian!
