Misty and Corry are greeted by Diane, Sandy and Jerry
President Robert called our meeting to order promptly at 12:15 and had Arnie lead us in the pledge of allegiance. Denn delivered another great invocation.

President Robert gave us a report on the very well attended Scholarship Awards Program that took place last Thursday night at the La Quinta High School.  Our club was well represented with several club members in attendance including both Sandy Lauer and Corry Hunter who reported that the Rotary Scholarship recipients were very happy to receive their awards and that it was hard to fit 15 students in one photo!  President Robert noted that 13 of the 15 Rotary Scholarship recipients were among the top 50 students in the LQHS 2018 graduating class.

Robert then announced that there would be a Club Board Meeting to be held on June 20, 2018 at Corry Hunter’s office beginning at 5:30 PM.

Doug Motz, returning from his winter hiatus, presented Robert with a check for $2,000 for our club’s participation in the City of La Quinta’s 2017 Brew in LQ.

With approximately $490.00 in the raffle Arnie was the lucky ticket holder for our raffle today!  Unfortunately for him, but fortunately for the rest of us he drew a white marble and won only $5!

Our Fine Master Allan Levin was back this week and started off by thanking all round GREAT GUY and newsletter editor Bruce Cathcart (better known as “Bruce the Benevolent” Fine Master) who had taken his place at the podium in his absence.  After some confusing bidding Bruce C. won the bid for a paltry $35.  This happens to be just $2 shy of his upcoming 37th anniversary with his wife Lora based upon the buck-a-year formula.  Allan then volunteered $35 for his birthday based upon his very own 50 cents a year formula.  As a birthday gift in honor of Allan’s 70thbirthday Dave Turner and Bruce C. added another $35 on Allan’s behalf to make it an even buck-a-year!  Brett and Dan each had a no make-up, Sandy L. donated a fiver as she was “so proud” of the scholarship kids, Sandy S. threw in a fiver for her recent trip to Puerto Vallarta, and Doug Motz caught up on his anniversary with Carol as well as her birthday with a $50 contribution.

Misty contributed $20 for knocking off another adventure from her bucket list when she river-rafted through a class 5 Tunnel Shoot on the American River.  She also shared with us that her 17 year old son will be attending the Summer Seminar program at Annapolis this summer.

And finally, our newest member Denn threw in a few bucks in celebration of the National Spelling Bee Championship for the winning word Koinonia. Koinonia is a Greek word whose primarymeaning is “fellowship, sharing in common, communion.” He wanted to share this word and its meaning with our club members since it most aptly symbolizes what Rotary has come to mean to him.  Is this guy a great Rotarian or what???

We did not have a speaker scheduled for this day so the members in attendance instead enjoyed the rest of the meeting sharing stories, catching up with one another and generally enjoying the ever present koinonia to be found at the Rotary Club of La Quinta at each and every Friday lunch meeting.

President Robert called the meeting to a close at 1:30 PM with the Four Way Test.
