This past week was a great La Quinta Rotary Week.  At our meeting on Friday, Dick and Helen Anderson gave a report on their recent trip to Guatemala in support of our Literacy project.  This project has provided needed textbooks and computer labs to over 100,000 Guatemalan girls and boys with the goal of breaking the cycle of poverty in the lives of these young children.  Over 100 Rotary clubs from the U.S., Canada and the Cayman Islands participated in the project this year.

Saturday was “dog day” as we hosted our First Annual “Strut Your Mutt” Dog Show and Expo.  It was a beautiful day and the people came!  Over 500 people and 100 dogs filled the La Quinta Community Park.  Our guest MC, radio personality Bill Feingold, did a wonderful job entertaining the crowd and keeping the pace of the show moving.  With over 17 categories, there was continuous activity.  Our own Bruce Cathcart treated the crowd to a retrieving demonstration.  Ironically his “retriever” did a much better job in the Tail Wagging category.  Regardless of how much was raised, the club can be proud of this community effort.  Besides that, all of the Rotarians seemed to be having a good time.  A huge “Thanks” to Dave Turner and his committee for a wonderful event.  And “Thanks” also to all of the club members who worked hard in the planning and execution of “Strut Your Mutt”.  Hope you all saw the article on our event in The Desert Sun last Sunday.
