Our International Service Committee looks for opportunities to reach out to people in need in other countries.

The Guatemala Literacy Project (GLP) is a partnership between Rotary International clubs and the non-profit organization Cooperative for Education (CoEd). This initiative provides badly-needed textbooks, computer labs, scholarships, literacy and training programs to underprivileged children in Guatemala.

The La Quinta Rotary Club has elected to participate in the Guatemala Literacy Project. Our contribution will be combined with those from other U.S. and Canadian Clubs to provide textbooks, computer labs and libraries to the indigenous children in the highlands of Guatemala. As a participant, we are invited to send representatives to participate in the delivery on these textbooks. The next delivery trip will be from October 12th through October 22nd, 2015. Contact Dick Anderson (AnderAssociates@aol.com) if you are interested in going to Guatemala!

If you would like more information on the project, you will find it at www.guatemalaliteracy.com

Our Club has also elected to participate in an International Matching Grant with the Rotary Club of Palm Springs. The grant will be to support the Peanut Butter Project in the Philippines.

We will introduce our members to other cultures through local events and meeting speakers.
