Steve Wilson - Certified Health Coach

Penny, Speaker Steve, Marc and Roy are greeted by Sandy, Robert, Baird and Joe

We gathered together once again as Rotarians and friends at the Cliff House where President Tom called the meeting to order at 12:15 and lead us in the pledge of allegiance.  Doug Motz gave the invocation.

There were several visiting Rotarians in attendance today and we were truly honored to have with us Don Kraft from the Seattle #4 Rotary Club.  Don is celebrating 68 years of perfect attendance in Rotary! Fred Campbell from the Australia E-club, Bob Woodward from North Carolina, Barry from South El Monte, Diane from Stockton and Abraham were all repeat visitors and we had several one timers that included Jim Shadrack and Mark Wolfe from Oregon, Grace Ladner and her husband from Alberta, Canada, and Bob Aldville from Lake Arrowhead.  Last but not least, our speaker this day was Steve Wilson who is a member of the Indian Wells Rotary club.

President Tom made the following announcements:
The next Board meeting will be held at President Tom’s office on February 15th starting at 5:30 PM.  Tom’s office is located off of Country Club west of Washington at 77530 Enfield Ln, Palm Desert, CA 92211.

We will once again be hosting our Wine Event at the La Quinta Museum this year on April 21st.  More info to follow on this popular event!

The City of La Quinta’s 35th anniversary and annual picnic will be held on Saturday April 29th.  We will be cooking and serving over 1,000 hot dogs to hungry La Quinta Citizens!  There will be more information to follow on this fun event in the meetings to come.

The DEMOTION Party to be held this year on June 23rd!

As a point of clarification, WE WILL NOT BE DARK on February 17th despite the presidential proclamation in support of President’s Day.  Good try Tom… some of us citizens were behind you all the way.

Corry Hunter and Sandy Stewart reminded members that our Strut Your Mutt will take place on February 11, 2017.  Please sign up at our next meeting to help at this fun event and make sure to get a “PEE” sign to help support the club and promote your business!

Robert Wilkinson shared with the club members that he and his committee interviewed 26 La Quinta High School Students from which 10 will be chosen and sponsored by our club to attend RYLA this year.

Joe LaMantia reminded club members that the easiest way to regularly contribute to the Rotary Foundation was through Rotary Direct.

Our raffle was worth well over $660.00 today and Bruce Cathcart (for the second week in a row) had the winning ticket.  This week, as he usually does, he had our favorite server Lexi (short for Alexandria) pick the marble which sadly for Lexi, but good for the club members was the white one!

Our Fine Master Allan Levin stepped to the podium and after some spirited bidding auctioned off the “fine free” badge to David Turner saving David the cost of his birthday and no doubt a few “late fees” this month!
Corry Hunter paid for having a nice article and picture of himself in the “GEM”.  Bruce Underwood paid a few bucks for Kansas Basketball being ranked #2 behind Gonzaga… which prompted our poor retired member on a fixed income from Washington State to kick in a few bucks for Gonzaga being ranked #1.  Sandy Lauer chipped in a few bucks for being on Robert’s RYLA Interview team and shared how impressed she was with this year’s student applicants.  One student humbly apologized for having only a 5.25 G.P.A.  and there were at least 4 students who had perfect scores on their rating sheets.  Hopefully they will all make GREAT Rotarians someday.  There were a few no make-ups here and there and “happy dollars” were once again in abundance showing off the generous spirit of our grateful club members.

Our speaker this day was Steve Wilson, a visiting Rotarian from our original Rotary sponsor club (Indian Wells).  In addition to being a dedicated Rotarian of over 35 years, Steve is a Certified Health and Lifestyle Coach.  Speaking as the former, Steve suggested that the best way to increase membership in Rotary was to invite a prospective member to lunch and let our club make a great first impression… as he was most impressed with our club and how friendly were and how much fun we had at our meetings.  He then shared with us his advice on how to lose weight and get healthy.  He himself is a living example as he avoided taking medication for diabetes and a heart condition by following his own advice and losing 60 pounds!  One of the secrets he shared was to eat 6 meals a day instead of only 3.  Of course 5 of these meals are “proportionally controlled meal replacements” that are prepackaged and available on Steve’s website (www.nextlevelcoaching.tsfl.com) for about $400.00 month.  Along with the meals you get Steve’s FREE coaching and advice every step of the way.  This program works because it levels out an individual’s insulin cycle and allows the body to more effectively burn stored fat… Steve is the proof!  Steve is a very good speaker and provided us all with a lot of food for thought.  (Sorry about that, I just couldn’t resist!)  So if you are carrying around a few extra pounds or even more than a few extra pounds that you would like to get rid of I would recommend checking out Steve’s website.  It looks like an easy way to take charge of your diet and get healthy for now and for good!
At 1:30 President Tom called the meeting to a close with the Four Way Test.
