Dr. Bruce Underwood - Best Supplements and Sources as They Relate to the Aging Process

Posted by Bruce Cathcart on Jul 14, 2017
Diane is greeted by Dr. Bruce, Sandy, and Greg

Past President Corry Hunter, substituting for our newly installed President Baird called the meeting to order at 12:15 and had Greg Lane lead us in the pledge of allegiance. Corry then gave the invocation.

We had only 15 members present and one visiting Rotarian this day, our very own past member Lothar Vasholz stopped by while awaiting the birth of his 3rd Great Grandchild.

Corry announced a few reminders starting off with this year’s Rotary dues of $195 are now DUE!  Our Club will be DARK FOR THE ENTIRE MONTH OF AUGUST, please consider Rotary Direct for your Paul Harris giving, and about the upcoming Coachella Valley Rotary Summer Aloha Mixer to be held at Roy’s in Rancho Mirage (across Highway 111 from the River) to be held on July 25 from 5:30 to 7:00 PM.  The cost will be $15 per person and appetizers will be served.  Those who arrive between 5:30 and 6:00 will receive a $20 gift card to be used at a future visit to Roy’s.  It promises to be a great night of Rotary Fellowship!  To make reservations go online to https://rotarysummeralohamixer.eventbrite.com. Corry also promised a new club budget for this year to be out shortly.

With about $185.50 in the raffle and a bag still heavily weighted in white marbles Dr. Bruce assisted our guest Lothar in picking Dr. Bruce’s number.  Fortunately for the club members in attendance (and to save his own skin) he picked a white marble and settled for the $5 consolation prize.

Our fine master Allan Levin started this week’s recognition by straightening the record out regarding the District Governor Elect’s donation to the club last week as being only $5.00, not the $50 broadcast by both the DGE and as reported in last week’s newsletter.  So is it the truth DGE Loretta?  That said, I once attended a make-up meeting at the Rotary Club of El Centro and when fined I was shocked at the amount of the donations the club members were (seemingly) donating.  The minimum was $10 and most were claiming to throw in $100 or even $200 at a time!  Seeing the look of amazement in my eyes my buddy straightened me out on this.  You see in some clubs they add a zero to the dollar digit so a $1 donation becomes a $10, $5 becomes $50… etc.  Perhaps the DGE forgot he was in La Quinta this past week.  I am sure Allan will remind him on his next visit!  Allan had Dr. Bruce make good on his $55 proxy bid for the fine free badge.  Dr. Bruce then carried the basket over to Dave Turner who was $2 late and then to Corry who was the only one to acknowledge that he did NOT read last week’s newsletter.  And then silence overtook the room as Allan announced that was it for the day!

Our speaker this day was our very own Health and Nutrition Expert Dr. Bruce Underwood who spoke to us on the topic of “Best Supplements and Sources as They Relate to the Aging Process”.  Dr. Bruce is an excellent speaker and as usual gave us more information about health and wellness than any of us could absorb in one sitting.  I have always appreciated Dr. Bruce’s genuine concern and care for his client’s wellbeing and I think that his definition of being healthy is the best I’ve ever heard.  He believes that, “If you wake up each morning with enough energy and enthusiasm to do what you want to do and what you need to do, then you are healthy”.  If you stop to think about it, it makes perfect sense and best of all it is not judgmental.  There’s no, “you need to lose weight or quit smoking or change your diet and exercise more” involved unless of course you are not able to do the things you want and need to do each day!  When it comes to vitamins and supplements Dr. Bruce told us that it is tremendously individualized and that the only way to know what is essential to you and make sure your body is getting what it needs is to get a couple simple tests done.  Dr. Bruce strongly recommended that each of us have our DNA tested… this runs about $400.  Also, and perhaps even more important he recommended that we all have a Micronutrient test done.  Dr. Bruce volunteered to help members get this test done for $190 in combination with using your health insurance card.  With the information that these two tests provide a skilled professional like Dr. Bruce can create a custom dietary plan that makes sure you are getting ALL the necessary vitamins, minerals and amino acids that you need to keep your body working at its optimum efficiency level.  Dr. Bruce calls this “Health care rather Vs. Sick care”!  He ended with a teaser for his next presentation by stating “Every psychological problem has a nutritional solution”.  Definitely some food for thought!!!  To learn more about this subject and Dr. Bruce Underwood please visit his website at:  http://www.bruceunderwooddrph.com/ or better yet, sit next to him at our next meeting!  You’ll be glad you did.

Past President Corry called the meeting to a close at 1:30 PM with the Four Way Test.
